Breast prosthesis
Breast-prostheses or breast implants are one of the common cosmetic surgery methods for shaping and reconstructing breasts by increasing their volume. The most important factors of small breasts can be mentioned as follows:
- Hereditary and genetic records
- Hypothyroidism and hypophysis
- Thinness and malnutrition (the body of these people has very little fat tissue.)
- Pregnancy increases the volume of breasts, followed by wrinkling and loss of breast tissue volume after breastfeeding.
- Medicines and hormonal disorders
- Sex hormone deficiency
- Menopause and finally old age
Also, in some cases, when a person has lost a volume of her breast due to severe trauma (accident) or cancer, breast prosthesis surgery is used to replace the lost parts.(feminine)
Breast cosmetic surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The anatomy of each person's body is unique, that's why the choice of breast prosthesis is made according to the width and texture of the breast. Before preparing for surgery, it is better to consult with Dr. Amir Daryani, plastic surgery specialist, about the size, shape, and type of prosthesis.
In this operation, the plastic surgeon makes an incision in three different places (armpit, areola around the breast, crease around the breast or around the navel) and inserts the prosthesis. The body keeps the prosthesis in place and prevents it from moving, and finally, the surgeon stitches the incision after placing the prosthesis.
Types of breast prostheses
Saline prostheses: These types of implants consist of sterilized salt water in a silicone shell. These types of prostheses do not have the natural structure of body tissue. Saline prostheses are less expensive. In case of tearing, the flat prosthesis is flattened and its liquid is absorbed in the body.
Silicone prostheses: This type of implant consists of plastic gel in a silicone shell and is similar to body tissue and can be used by all people. The cost of silicone prostheses is higher than saline prostheses. Silicone prostheses do not fall off in case of tearing and stick to the body tissue in place.
Duration of surgery:

- Take the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor around the clock.

- Avoid heavy activities and vigorous sports for two months after surgery.
- One week after the surgery, go to the bathroom to remove the adhesives on the sutures, and after moistening the area of the adhesives, remove them and apply the prescribed antibiotic ointment on the sutures. Repeat this for three weeks to prevent the stitches from drying out.
- If the stitches are not absorbable, according to the doctor’s opinion, visit Dr. Amir Daryani’s office 10 to 14 days later to remove the stitches.
- Avoid going to the pool for two months after surgery.
- If you have pain, you can use painkillers. If the pain does not decrease, it is safe to use pain reliever suppositories.
- To heal the wounds under the breast, start using the prescribed restorative ointments from the third week.
